President’s Message
Hello Everyone,
Cannot believe that another season is almost complete. There have been many
projects done and more to go during the summer months.
The Challenger Club house will have its outside stone project completed. The five
palm trees near the club house will be removed and replaced with something smaller.
That project has been recommended to us by more than one company looking at
the roof. Speaking of the roof, we will hopefully have all recommendations and
quotes in by the start of spring. Then a decision can be voted on.
There will be work on the compound, cleaning, rearranging and we will start
getting prices for a gate around the workshop.
That’s to just name a few. The changes to both the Rules and Regs Committee and
ACR will be in place by the writing of this letter. Changes may occur as we work
out the kinks and we will address them as soon as they come up.
The Activities Calendar is now located in the HOA Office. Call the Office at
863-429-1591 to schedule an event. You can call between 9:00am to 2:30 pm.
Monday thru Friday. As we begin to close the winter season I would like to wish
our Northern friends a safe journey North. Hope your summer is a Happy, Healthy
and Safe one. We look forward to your safe return to us next fall/winter.
As always, stay Safe and Healthy,
Karen Grant
P.S. Any ideas for activities this summer, just
call any board member.

Reminder to all that use the two club houses. Please remember
to properly set the thermostats when the last person leaves from
any activity. The thermostats have been found set with the heat
on late at night during some of the cold spells or the air not set
to 80 at times. When leaving, please set the air to 80 and the
heat to 60 and set on the AUTO mode. Thank you to all for your
attention to this matter. This will help in keeping our electric bill
to a minimum.

Residents’ Photos
For New Neighbors (and Old)
The Photo Albums in Challenger Clubhouse contain photos of
residents arranged alphabetically and by street. These albums
need constant updating. We have many new residents who have
not had pictures taken and some residents who have never had
their picture added to the albums.
I would like to undertake a project to correct that! I am willing
to visit each home, by appointment, to take pictures of every new
resident and anyone who does not have a photo in the albums.
Just give me a call and we can set up a photo session.
Thanks, Linda.
Golf Cart Numbers NOT Just
for Golfers
If you drive a Golf Cart on County Roads in Polo Park, you must
have it registered. This rule has nothing to do with whether or
not you play golf. Every cart must be registered.
This is a way to identify your own golf cart as well as a safety
issue. There’s nothing more embarrassing than driving home in
the wrong golf cart! And if someone else drives off in your golf
cart, how can you prove it? If your golf cart is picked up by a
thief, how do you identify it to the Sheriff’s Office? For your own
peace of mind, please go to the Pro Shop this week and get your
cart registered. The Pro Shop is open every day, even Sunday.
It will not cost you anything to register your cart, but you then
need to go to the Dollar Store and buy some stick-on numbers for
$1.00. For fun, you can add your name also!
Numbers for Your Driveway
Sue Cochran, 863-221-7592 (please note new number)
Members of the Polo Park Improvement Projects (PPIPS) will
continue to paint numbers on the end of driveways. The large
numbers are helpful to friends and, especially, emergency
vehicles when they are trying to identify your house. You may
have noticed that these painted numbers stood up to Hurricane
Irma!
The cost of the numbering is $10 per driveway. If you are
interested in having this done, please contact Sue Cochran.
Thank You Polo Park
Food Bank
Thanks to the generosity of Polo Park residents, our Food Pantry
is overflowing with non-perishable items. The outpouring of food
has been amazing, but until further notice we will not be taking
in any more donations. We are grateful for the endless bags we
have received, but our list of those in need has gotten shorter. But
don’t worry, the items we currently have will not go to waste. If
we cannot give them to a Polo Park resident we will pass them
on to two local church groups who have a wider outreach. In
the meantime, if you are aware of friends or neighbors who may
need a few canned goods, fresh produce or bread, please let us
know, and we will contact them ASAP. For more information or
questions call Lynda Poteracki 847-738-0089 or Linda Fern 863-
521-1688.

VALENTINE GIFTS TO POLO PARK
Thanks for partying with us on February 12.
Gabriel and Mary of the Happy Days band gave us several great “musicals shows” and super fun dancing music. A frozen Alaskan Cruise
group was an unusual surprise too—leaving only their hats on! We hope you enjoyed your free photo taken by Sam Harris. He and Robin did
a great job. Because of your generosity, Polo Park now has $800 for pool umbrellas and $150 for the food pantry. Some lucky winners went
home with extra cash, wine, towels, candy and even Teddy Bears. Be sure to save Saturday, February 11, 2023, for a sparkling new Hawaiian
Valentines party. Thank you committee members for your wonderful ideas, decorations, work and enthusiasm.

Clubs and Groups
Polo Park has many different Clubs and Game Groups which meet on a regular basis. A couple of clubs will be highlighted each month. A listing of all clubs,
with contact numbers, can be found on page 5 of the Resident Directory. Please refer to the Daily Activity Schedule in this newsletter for meeting times.

parties. At the May 2017 meeting, the Board approved the fee of
$100.00 for private parties to help with the costs of maintaining
the clubhouses. Notice of a private party will be posted on the
door of the clubhouse during a private function. Please.......let’s
have respect for our neighbors and their families who are having
a private function. We’re sure you would want the same respect
and consideration given to you.

The mission of the Polk
County Sheriff’s Office
Citizen’s Assisted Patrol is
to enhance the individual
and collective safety and
general welfare of all
people of Polk County by
assisting the Sheriff’s Office
in deterring crime in Polk
County. The primary method
used to deter crime is to provide high visibility patrols within
neighborhoods.
In Polo Park, these citizen patrols are provided by our own
residents who volunteer to walk or drive through our park on a
regular patrol to report incidents and problems to law enforcement
and provide a visible presence that deters criminal activity
Each volunteer must attend 6 hours of training and provide 8
hours of service each month.
C.A.P. meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
in Challenger Clubhouse. A representative from the Sheriff’s
Office also attends this meeting and gives an update on what
types of criminal activities have been happening in our nearby
neighborhoods.
All residents are welcome to attend these very informative
meetings.

Volunteer Spotlight
• Barb Dundore and Sheryl Batey •
This nomination is for two individuals, instead of just one, because it is rare to see one without the other there, as well. Sheryl
Batey and Barb Dundore are an awesome team in whatever project they undertake. Barb is the Challenger kitchen manager, and
was the main shopper, cook and server at Dauber Diner on Tuesdays during the Bingo season (often with Sheryl’s help) for the
last three years until her retirement at the end of December. Barb hasn’t left the kitchen completely, however; she has planned
and served a monthly luncheon for Polo Park residents in the past few months. It is not unusual to see Barb and Sheryl on a
ladder with a paintbrush or on their knees with a gardening tool as they endeavor to renovate and refresh various areas of the
park. We can thank them for the redecorating of the Challenger Clubhouse and its restrooms, as well as for the yearly Christmas
decorations that adorn that facility! Along with Connie Tambling, Barb and Sheryl are co-chairs for the park’s annual Holiday
Craft Show. The Craft Show has funded the irrigation system around the Horseshoe Pit (which will be extended and finished this
year), beautiful plantings in front of both clubhouses, and monetary donations to other projects around Polo Park. Over the years,
Sheryl has done a great job finding entertainers for our Polo Park dinners and events, like Todd Bogue’s Christmas Magic Show,
and currently, she’s handling all of her volunteer activities while being the main caregiver for her 106-year old mother, Winifred.
Life in Polo Park is good, and with a team like this, it just gets better!
Volunteers are the backbone of our community.
If you have someone in mind to honor next month in Volunteer Spotlight, please email your nomination to Denise Lundin at
deelundin@gmail.com. Include a short story about why this volunteer is so special to Polo Park.
